This image of Longstreet was taken early in the war. To my knowledge, it is the only full-length photograph of Longstreet in uniform known to exist.
Many post-war artists and authors would depict Longstreet as a hulk of a man, claiming he was over-weight and under-tall. As you can see clearly from this picture, Longstreet was well proportioned and lean. These false perception of Longstreet physique were yet another of the methods used by those who wanted to destroy his reputation to give a false impression of the man. |
