The Breakthrough
On the morning of September 20, 1863 at the battle of Chickamauga, Longstreet's Wing of the Army of Tennessee broke through the right of the Federal line near this point. To the left, the road in the picture leads to the Brotherton cabin, near the area where Longstreet staged his powerful strike force. To the right the road leads through the woods to the point where the breakthrough occurred.
