Margaret Blough
The second day of the Symposium was the more memorable and
emotional. The first day was great and the Court of Inquiry that evening
was terrific. Dan taped it. I hope it turns out well. However, Sunday was
the big emotional blowout that everyone expected. At one point, they asked
for a show of hands as to who had been at the prior seminars. An amazing
number of people there had been to all three. Robert did a terrific
presentation on the history of the LMF, which should be mandatory listening
for any groups seeking to do fundraising for a project. Gary's
presentation on the creation of the statue was terrific. I saw it only a
few weeks before it went to the foundry and he did an amazing amount of
detail work in those weeks. This is definitely going to be a career maker
for him, not just in terms of his talent as a sculptor but the LMF people
were absolutely thrilled with him. He went above and beyond the call of
duty in doing publicity and, since he's a friendly, charming man, the
newspapers loved him. We got some great newspaper coverage and even some
local TV coverage of his work on the statue. The tribute to Robert was an
enormous surprise to him. The affection, respect, and love the people from
the LMF who put it together have for him just permeated the whole thing.
There were parts that were also extremely funny (I think Gary could make a
living as a standup comedian).
